three teenagers travel to the past Original name MAT What is The Mate? The Mate is not only the title, but also the watchword of our stories. Because to mate somebody means to win after a clever fight. By coincidence, the word is also made up of the initial letters of the names of our heroes. Michael, Ann and Tom are precisely in the age when a young person strives to become an independent personality, perhaps even a hero. Short tales with a contemporary frame whose main plot takes us back to the past provide many opportunities for realizing dreams of this sort. Also, they show young viewers how important it is to take the right side in a crucial moment, how noble it is to help even an unknown person in a difficulty or danger, how exciting it is to confront brute force with dexterity and ingeniousness – and, in the right time, to mate the opponent
